Father,

We lift up to you our neighbors in Spring Texas. You have given us a commission to share your love with them. We ask that you would turn our hearts to you, strengthen us to serve you by calling and praying for our neighbors. Let us be a light and blessing to them through the power of your Holy Spirit. We pray for them, that you would heal their bodies, comfort them in sorrow and affliction, forgive them their sins and bring them into relationship with you through Jesus Christ our Lord. May your peace so encompass Spring that your name may be glorified by all people.

Thank you for your love and faithfulness to us and our neighbors.

Father in heaven, thank you for your compassion and care for the poor, the widowed, the orphans and thank you for sending Jesus to minister to the least of these and to show us your heart of compassion. As our young people and thier leaders work hard to prepare and to carry out a mission to the City of Houston called Soul in the City this summer, we ask that you would raise up laborers for the tasks at hand, that you would enable and empower your children to be servants and witnesses for you, that you would heal, deliver, lift up and save those who are sick, enslaved, and broken. Father, break the power of sin and death in Houston as you did on the cross at Calvary and bring victory to lives that currently see only despair. Keep your ministers safe from the evil one as they do their work in your kingdom. Thank you for your faithfulness in guiding and empowering our youth.

For Those Who Suffer Mental Illness

Father, we lift up to you those who suffer from mental illness. It is so much more difficult to navigate our medical system when our ability to think is under attack. Give grace to their psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers who give aid to these your children. Assure your children of your love for them despite their actions which seem to others to be out of control. Give grace to their families who struggle to understand and to help them. Guard them in their weakened state from attacks by evil, especially drug and alcohol abuse.

Help us all to respond in grace to those you place in our lives rather then with fear or anger. Help us to minister your love to our friends and loved ones while not enabling them to further damage their lives. Guard and protect those whose minds are so damaged that they are not able to guard and protect themselves. These are truly the "least of these" who find a special place in your heart. Make our hearts soft to care for them as you do.

Father, we remember before you all those who have been affected by the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon: the families of those killed, the families that have lost their livelihoods, those who are working to stop the leaking oil, those who are attempting to clean up the oil or save wildlife and estuaries, and our governing officials and churches that are responding to the need caused by the spill. Have mercy on them and give them grace to persevere through this trying time. We ask for your mercy on the wildlife and the environment. Help us to clean up our mess and learn from our mistakes. Lord, give us grace to keep all inclement weather away from the work site and oil slick that it may not be made worse.

This is your world and you made it. Please heal the damage that we have done by our carelessness and arrogance.
